The Problem
A prominent national airline, in conjunction with outside counsel, needed to investigate over 100 mobile devices (phones & tablets) related to an aviation disaster. The aim was to ascertain whether pilot training and education influenced the event. A unique challenge arose as all the devices were BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and there were heightened concerns about the personal information and data privacy of the device owners.
The Purpose-Built Solution
To address this sensitive and critical need, we deployed defensible forensic collection techniques and tools. We collected the devices both in person and remotely, based on the location of the employees. Utilizing a state-of-the-art mobile device platform, we prepared the extracted data, ensuring that it was ready for review by the legal team while navigating and respecting the concerns of custodians over personal data.
The Product
The efficient and respectful collection process allowed for a thorough investigation by the legal team into the potential impact of pilot training and education on the aviation disaster. The procedures used ensured the integrity of the investigation while upholding data privacy standards, paving the way for a comprehensive understanding of the event’s circumstances.
